The following R. Allan John Experiences will guide you through some of the training and events the High Prairie Fire Department has been privileged to take part in. We hope you enjoy these presentations as much we did in our participation in them. Click on the RED hyperlink to launch each presentation.
Just Think
Over past years, the High Prairie Fire Department has been proud to be part of the Preventing Alcohol Related Trauma in Youth Program.
In the Fall of 2004, the HPFD along with PCH-EMS, High Prairie District and the High Prairie Detachment of the RCMP demonstrated a mock MVC to help kick-off the P.A.R.T.Y. Program. Four students from the St. Andrew's Catholic School 's drama club played the role of occupants involved in the simulated crash - one walking wounded; one trapped, needing extrication; one ejected, living, and; one ejected, DOA.
This scenario allowed all three Emergency Services agencies in High Prairie to demonstrate what could very well be happening at a real-life incident to the students in attendance of this presentation.

HPFD Part II
HPFD and HPFD Part II are both humble tributes to our Firefighters over the past few years. Some of the photos you will see are of actual calls attended by them while others were taken during training evolutions. We hope you enjoy them both.
Dangerous Goods
This presentation comes from an FFTS-1200 Dangerous Goods First Responder course hosted by the HPFD in the Winter of 2005. As you will see, various members from the HPFD, Joussard Fire Department, Faust Fire Department and Kinuso Fire Department all learned a great deal and had a lot of fun doing it. A special thanks to the instructor of the '1200, Cory Schram.
Propane Tree Burn
This is probably one of the most anticipated practices of the year at the High Prairie Fire Department - the propane tree! This exercise provides our firefighters with valuable, hands-on experience with valve shut-off procedures in potential low-volume blow-outs. Propane Tree Burn will take you through this practice from it's start to our finish...
Fire
A house to set fire to, ventilate horizontally and vertically, interior searches, salvage & overhaul... just to declare a "loss stopped" so you can do it all over again! What more could a firefighter ask for? This experience takes us through all of these elements in an exhilarating ride we call... "FIRE".
Fir Na Tine
This presentation is from the FFTS-700 course: live burns & interior & rescue. Fire Departments from Grimshaw, Smoky River, Faust, Kinuso and, of course, High Prairie participated in the program hosted by the Lesser Slave Regional Fire Service in Slave Lake, Alberta. Special thanks to Chief Ian Fox of Smoky River Fire Department and Deputy Chief Jaime Coutts of LSRFS in Slave Lake.
A Landmark Lost
In an early morning of September of 2004, the last-standing grain elevator originally built by the Alberta Wheat Pool in the early 1950's, burned to the ground. This is a visual account of how the High Prairie Fire Department's defensive operational attack.
V-Ex
HPFD Firefighters were in Slave Lake for the FFTS-1100: Vehicle Extrication. Under the tutelage of Deputy Chief Jaime Coutts of the Lesser Slave Regional Fire Service, firefighters from as High Prairie, Whitecourt, Fahler and Slave Lake had four days of "Rip, Snort & Tear" with a whole-lot of problem solving thrown into the mix.
Pyro
The 2006 High Prairie Elks Pro Rodeo went off with a BANG! And the HPFD Pyrotechnics Team was there with one of the most impressive fireworks displays in memory! Take a look at what it was like at ground-zero as the show was being set off...
